One Case of Hepatitis Developed After General Anesthesia

Abstract
Although halothane is one of the most widely used inhalational anesthetics, it may cause complication, such as hepatitis, and there still are many controversies concerning halothane induced hepatitis.
We experienced 1 case of hepatitis developed after surgery, the patient underwent surgery with normal liver function test and the operation was uneventful. She complained of epigastric discomfort and high fever on the 10th postoperative day, and then jaundice and severely elevated serum transaminases were noted on the 15th postoperative day.
She recovered gradually from the hepatitis and was discharged from the hospital on the 35th postoperative day.
In this case, no other possible causes of hepatitis could be found but halothane may be a possible cause of hepatitis.
